Living Legends are working very hard to make sure that the 17 planting sites will be ready in September.
Living Legends Operations Manager, Gordon Hosking said the team is making great progress. ”Now that plants for this year’s events are all sourced, the sites visited and planting strategies discussed, we have a short breathing space to attend to a raft of smaller details essential to a successful planting day”.
Most sites will need fertiliser in the form of a slow release tablet which is put under each plant. On a project of this scale we will need 50 kg of tablets and they need to be shipped to each site, and stored until planting day. Some sites also require tree protectors due to severe weather conditions or to discourage our fluffy little friends, again big numbers to various sites.
But perhaps the most action over the next couple of months will be the site preparation. While woody weeds have already been tackled on most sites, grass spraying is now well underway. On most sites this involves spot spraying the planting point for each plant, around 5000 spots 1m apart.
With the 17 events not too far away, it has to come together like clockwork, we cannot afford to arrive with plants but no spades, or spades with no plants! So we are working hard to ensure the stress levels are low on the big day and everything goes without a hitch.
